Bourdon-Diphonie
This piece is representative of the musical work as well as the influence evolution of the ensemble.
The reference to tradition is perceived in the first part where the four singers exchange tunes of harmonics
on a fixed drone. As far as the “classical” heritage is concerned, one can find it in the strong rhythmic structure,
the imitation behaviours, the tonal harmonies, the use of minor key mode. |
|
Sygyt
Written for a vocal trio, the austere play based on only one theme is the major characteristic of this piece.
Perceived through the harmonics of one voice, this theme appears and disappears, helped by different sound colours. |

Clusters-Dissonances
Just as a child sometimes has a nice feeling being afraid, our hearing can enjoy a sweet sound stress, a dissonance.
Voices play in reflecting space, with the meetings between fundamental sounds and harmonics which are sometimes very
close. A receptivity of every moment is required to get these different sound levels firmly fixed. At the beginning, only one
voice slowly plays its harmonic tunes, before a second voice makes its entrance creating dissonance. Then the 2 voices
meet and become consonant, preparing soon for the entrance of a third voice... |

Dans les plaines de Mongolie
Paying homage to tradition, this is an arrangement of 3 Mongolian songs, gathered into one composition with 3 movements.
The voices in octaves imitate a musical instrument of Mongolian folklore : the “horse-head fiddle” (morin khuur). |
|
Chamaecyparis
Enriched by the echo of the vibraphone played with a bow and by the sound of hanging cymbals, four voices
impose a dark and stiff atmosphere on one harmonic theme. Serenity and instability complete the atmosphere
of this piece : serenity of a total harmony and instability attached to the chance of harmonic friction. |
Humandeya
This name was chosen for the spectral richness of each of its syllables, alternately exploited
by the singers. The percussion instrument slowly installs a dehumanized atmosphere. The voices with
harmonies inspired by the Sardinian polyphonies put the listener back in a climate with a certain serene quality. |
